OpenSubtitles requires an API key, and optionally an account for downloading subtitles.
Step 1: Get an API Key
- Go to OpenSubtitles.com in your browser.
- Create a free account if you don't have one (click Register).
- After signing in, go to API Consumers page.
- Click Create to create a new API consumer.
- Fill in the form with any name (e.g. "AN Player") and a short description.
- After creation, you will see your API Key. Copy it.
Step 2: Configure in AN Player
- Go back to AN Player and open the OpenSubtitles plugin configuration.
- Paste the API key into the API Key field.
- Enter your OpenSubtitles Username and Password — these are needed to download subtitle files (searching works without them, but downloading requires a logged-in account).
- In the Languages field, enter your preferred language codes separated by commas (e.g.
enfor English,en,de,frfor English, German, and French). This filters search results to show only subtitles in those languages. - Tap Save.

If Nothing Loads
If subtitles don't appear after saving, check the following:
- The API key may be invalid — go back to the OpenSubtitles consumers page and verify it.
- Your account credentials may be wrong — try logging in at opensubtitles.com to verify.
- The language codes may be wrong — make sure you use the two-letter codes listed above, not full language names.
- Free accounts have daily download limits — if you've reached the limit, try again tomorrow.
